Urban areas have historically been complex sites to analyze and understand. Urban sociology represents the study of the urban setting from its construction to its interpretation.  While most of us live in the city, we do not experience it the same way. The challenges we face are economic, social and political. It is also important to recognize the racial and gender boundaries that continue to permeate our urban landscape. Using ethnographic research in combination with macro date,  urban sociologists become experts in explaining the complexities of the city.
